History

1861

Sandy Creek settled

The Brisbane suburb of Tarragindi was first known as Sandy Creek. Robert Cribb of Cribb & Foote Ipswich received several portions of land under the Deed of Grant.

1890

Tarragindi Homestead built

65 acres were given to grand-daughter Mary on her marriage to WD Grimes and their home “Tarragindi” was erected on the southern corner of Tarragindi Rd and Andrew Ave.

November 1944

Tarragindi Bowls Club established

3 and 1/4 acres of land was purchased from Albert Oates for $150 plus a strip of land for $100 to gain access to Andrew Avenue.

May 1946

First green opens

The opening ceremony was performed by the Lieutenant-Governor, The Hon. Frank Cooper MLA. The clubhouse, at the time, consisted of 2 ex-USA Army huts.

December 1947

Second green opens

Membership numbered 158 with playing days Wednesdays and Saturdays.

1949

TBC Ladies established

1956

Original clubhouse opens

The cost was 12,858 pounds.

1957

Tiley becomes Treasurer

The foundation Treasurer of the bowls club was T.A. Hiley who later to become Sir Thomas Hiley, Treasurer of Queensland.

1961

Australian champion

The late Vic O’Brien won the Australian Singles Championship.

1978

First division champions

The Club won the First Division Metropolitan Pennant and hosted the first Test Match between Australia and New Zealand.

1994

Golden Jubilee

The Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee year, during which it conducted a very successful ‘Golden jubilee Carnival’ an open pairs event which attracted a field of the best Qld Bowlers. Prize money was $4700.

2018

Construction begins

The original greens and clubhouse were demolished so that construction of The Green retirement village could begin. The club plays out of the Salisbury Bowls Club for five years.

October 2023

New green and clubhouse opens

The new bowls club features a new, 10-rink championship-quality, synthetic bowling green, co-located with the retirement community, as well as a clubhouse and café.
